Green Lake

Green Lake (Grüner See) is a lake located in Styria, Austria, famous for its crystal-clear, emerald-green waters, and its transformation throughout the year. In winter, it’s a shallow basin surrounded by forests and mountains, but in spring, snowmelt from nearby mountains floods the area, submerging the tree trunks, trails, and even benches under up to 12m of water.

Because of the spike in tourist visits that has occurred and expected damage to this sensitive environment, the use of this lake for all watersports activities has been prohibited since 1 January 2016.
