About

The blue jay is a blue-feathered bird native to eastern North America. These birds are excellent mimics and can imitate human speech, or even calls of hawks to trick other birds into fleeing an area. They are also intelligent and curious birds; young ones often play with shiny objects like bottle caps, while those in captivity have been seen using newspaper strips as tools to get food and even trying to open their cages. However, they can be very aggressive to other birds; they sometimes raid nests and have even been found to have decapitated other birds.
